Founding A Children's Home

The Founding of Heritage Ranch Christian Children’s Home is the fruit of the efforts of thousands of individuals, churches, foundations, and organizations across the Greater Baton Rouge Region, the state of Louisiana, and even nationwide. In the early 2000’s, Vicki Ellis, Founder and Executive Director, began to share her passion to see a Christian Children’s Home built in her home community to serve young people and families in crisis. In 2003, she was joined by a small group of community members who joined the Ranch Board of Directors and Heritage Ranch was officially incorporated and within a year received its tax-exempt status. Ellis and Board Members began to research nationally successfully Children’s Home models and connected with Eagle Ranch in Georgia, participating in its Wings Replication Seminar.

The Ranch gained momentum as the vision of a voluntary placement, therapeutic Children’s Home was shared throughout the community. What began as a Board of Directors with 3 members in 2003 has expanded today to a Board of Directors with 7 members and a flourishing 14 member advisory board. Heritage Ranch opened the doors to its first home for boys in August of 2015.

The Ranch is a beautiful 52 acre campus in Zachary, LA with sprawling land, ponds, stables, a covered arena, on-site housing for its Director, and a beautiful home for the youth it serves. Long-term the vision for Heritage Ranch is to serve up to 60 boys and girls on its campus in 10 homes. This ministry is made possible by the generous gifts, volunteerism, and prayers of its community.
